Bearsden Cross Church - North Church Group

Congregational Meeting and Report from the North Project Group

A special Meeting of the Congregation was held on Sunday 20th June,  2010 to consider the recommendations of both the Kirk Session and the Congregational Board. The meeting approved the plans brought forward by the North Project Group for the development of the historic North Church buildings and, in particular, the proposal to try to establish a Community Trust, to which, in due time, the title deeds of the historic buildings would be transferred, with the understanding, in line with the decision taken by the congregation on 14th June last year, that, if this cannot be done, the historic North Church buildings will be sold. Those in favour were 140; those against were 33. The Congregation also approved the recommendation that the link corridor between the historic North Church buildings and Church House be demolished and Church House be sold. Those in favour were 169; those against were five.

Background: On 1st September 2009 Presbytery approved the application from the Kirk Session of Bearsden:Cross to alter Article 3 of the Basis and Plan of Union between Bearsden: South and Bearsden: North agreed by Presbytery on 13 June 2006, so that Article 3 of that Basis and Plan of union now read as follows –
3. Place of Worship – The congregation shall make its permanent home in the former South Church buildings, seeking to develop the buildings on the North site for community or other uses, possibly in partnership with others, failing which to sell them, subject to the titles on which it is held, subject to the approval of the Presbytery, and, if necessary, the General Trustees or the General Assembly. The proceeds of any such sale or let shall (a) if falling within the scope of Act VII 1995, be credited to the benefit of the congregation in the Consolidated Fabric fund or (b) if not falling within the scope of the said Act, be held and applied for fabric purposes in connection with the properties of the congregation.

The Kirk Session appointed the Group (NPG).
It's remit: To explore every avenue by which the North Church site and buildings might be retained for community and heritage purposes, if possible in partnership with others, investigating likely costs and possible sources of income, reporting to both the Board and Session ...

If you  want to download a document the Yudo publishing site we use allows an off-line version to be saved; look for the Options menu when you are viewing the document. An alternative way to create a copy on your own computer is to use a 'virtual PDF printer' such as the free to use, open source PDFcreator; there are other programmes. Once installed on your computer it appears as an alternative printer and allows you to create a PDF of pretty well anything you can 'print'. When viewing the magazine you select the printer icon and choose the pages you want then select the virtual PDF printer in place of your default printer.
